Activity

A leisurely coach trip out on a Saturday each month to visit a place of interest. We visit towns and cities, historic houses, museums, exhibitions, gardens and so on, usually within a couple of hour's travelling time.

(We do not have a trip in December; in January we have a visit to the theatre and in February a meal together.

Days of Interest - Saturday 9 April -
Kidderminster & Severn Valley Railway


The Days of Interest Group has spaces available on our April trip on the Severn Valley Railway and to the Kidderminster Carpet Museum. Bookings will close soon so please contact Pauline May or Jill Strachan if you would like to join the trip.

We start the day with a visit to the Kidderminster Carpet Museum. In a guided tour discover how carpets were made locally in Kidderminster then sold regionally, nationally and internationally. Meet Weavers, Spinners and ex-Carpet Industry Workers and find about how they lived and worked. Compare carpet weaving before and after the Industrial Revolution. There will also be a chance to see weaving demonstrations. 
Carpet Museum Access Statement . After some free time in Kidderminster, in the afternoon we take a trip on the picturesque Severn Valley Heritage Railway. We board at Kidderminster and break our journey at Highley, where we have a chance to have a quick look at the engine shed. We then complete our journey to Bridgnorth where our coach will pick us up. Severn Valley Railway Access Statement .

Days of Interest - 27 November 2021
Trip to Doddington Hall and Lincoln


In the morning we visited Doddington Hall to see the Elizabethan house decorated for Christmas. The theme for 2021 was Secret Gardens.

In the afternoon we made the short journey to Lincoln itself where we investigated the medieval city, did some Christmas shopping or enjoyed the cafés.

Days of Interest - 16 October 2021
Trip to Tattershall Castle and
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre


On October 16th we had trip to Tattershall Castle and the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. In the morning we visited Tattershall Castle (pictured right), a National Trust property with huge gothic fireplaces and fine medieval brickwork. In the afternoon we move onto the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, which is the only Airfield Museum in the country recreated to its original design and sited on an original WW2 airfield.

Saturday 28th August 2021,
Rutland Water + Gates Nursery

Our second trip, on Saturday 28th August, began with a short cruise on Rutland Water in the Rutland Belle, followed by a visit to the nearby Gates Nursery. The cost for the Rutland Belle and Gates Nursery in August was £21.50 per person.

We are - hopefully – back in business, with trips in both July and August 2021.

Our first trip, on Saturday 24th July 2021, was to Buxton and Bakewell.
