Trip to Ashwood Nurseries and John’s Garden
Date: Monday 18 September 2023

Cost: £24.40 comprising coach, admission to the private garden and guided tour (includes bank fee for cheque and coach driver’s tip)

Ashwood Nurseries is a traditional plant nursery and garden centre, near Kingswinford, situated in a canal-side setting in lovely open countryside. We had planned to visit last year but cancelled as the trip coincided with the funeral of Queen Elizabeth.

‘John’s Garden’ at Ashwood Nurseries is a wonderful three acre private garden created by nursery owner and Chelsea Gold medallist John Massey VMH. Informal borders, island beds, woodland dells and a wildlife garden are set against the beautiful backdrop of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. We have arranged a guided tour as part of our visit.

Regarded as one of the finest private gardens in the UK, there are magnificent collections of trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and conifers adding to the interest all year round with an abundance of rare plants as well as familiar favourites.

There are many fine features including a stunning pool and rock garden planted with choice alpines and miniature bulbs, an Anemone pavonina meadow, a rare tufa garden and a dramatic fern stumpery. The ruin garden and Christopher Lloyd border put the spotlight on some inspirational seasonal planting.

You can bring your own picnic - or purchase lunch, snacks and refreshments from the Tea Room.

We will meet at Tesco Park Road store, (please park at the far end of the car park) at 09:00 for a prompt departure at 09:15 - Paul Winson Coach. Toilets are available in the store. The anticipated return time is around 17:00.

For free parking at Tesco your vehicle registration number is required at least a week before the trip. Please include your registration number on the booking form and we will forward the information to Tesco.

If you purchase plants or other items in the Garden Shop they can be packed in boxes, labelled and stored—which nursery staff will take and load on to the coach.

Deadline for booking a place: 21 August 2023
